I went to Austin for the first time to attend SXSW in 2011, so it was an honor and a pleasure to be invited back this time as a solo presenter on my work with CIA : Operation Ajax. Aside from the many hours of prep, the biggest milestone for me in the progression of my work was the fact that I spend so much time getting rides from friends and hanging out with people I knew.  Last year I barely knew anyone, but I did go to a lot more presentations. Some of the hi lites include: Drinking Pappy Van Winkles with Saman Arababi from Parazit.  His new cause is Weapons of Mouse Destruction, and I got some dope shirts designed by Shepard Fairey. Kirby Ferguson of Everything is a Remix had his panel in the same room as me.  It was a pleasure to meet him, as I am a very big fan of his work, and recommend his docu to everyone I meet. I got to hang out with Andrea Phillips, author of the soon to be released book, Transmedia Storytelling. I stayed with friends of friends, who happened to work at Lightbox Interactive, on the soon to be released PS3 game, Starhawk.  I went over to hang out at the studio, and ran into one of my old students, Kyle Rockman. A grip of folks turned out for my presentation, which went REALLY well, as far as I can tell from the feedback I got.  Mona Eltahawy was in attendance, and it was great to meet her. CNN was filming me, and I hope to wrap the shoot for Next List with them soon, as we have a bunch of new work to show on a soon to be announced new project with a Major IP. One of the best promotional stunts I saw was the Urban Airship Mobile bike bar.  It felt like something out of Burning man, and I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to participate. I’m looking forward to going back next year, and will post a web synopsis of my presentation online so others may enjoy. Onwards and upwards 🙂
